For the past year, I’ve been working on an ebook which is full of advice for emerging artists on how to gain exposure on social media and booking high quality gigs. I really wanted the ebook to be conversational and feel as if the reader and myself were discussing it over a cup of tea.

At the age of 18 I began my first experience of artist management and if I’m honest, I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing (Sorry Blushes). I didn’t know where to find promoter contacts, I didn’t know the process of booking gigs, and I didn’t really know the process of releasing music. I spent a lot of time researching and learning as I went along, which delayed other things that needed my attention. I look back and I wish I had a guide that explained everything to me when I was starting out, and then I realised that if I was overwhelmed as a manager, than god knows how an artist must feel when starting out without any form of team around them. A lot of artists set out to be musicians, but have no idea of all the admin involved in doing so, whilst being expected to know how to do it at an industry standard. It can be incredibly scary when you’re surrounded by an industry where everyone seems to know what they’re doing (they definitely don’t!), really, a lot of people are in the exact same position

So in January 2018, I began writing about things I had learnt so far from managing a band and being solely in charge of booking their gigs, PR, and sending out pitches for opportunities. And I definitely made mistakes at the beginning but everyone has to learn and improve constantly, even the very best! I spent a lot of time in bed typing away, and realised that there were still things I needed to read up on and things that I was missing, so this ebook is not just for emerging artists, I’ve learnt so much from writing it too. And from all these notes I had written, I realised I could turn it into a guide for managers and artists, to give people a helping hand that I wish I had.
